On Sunday, 21st May, 2023 at 9.00am the Kaamatan Gawai Multi-Lingual Mass was celebrated at Parish level at the Church of the Holy Name of Mary, Permatang Tinggi with great enthusiasm.

The youth from the Sabah and Sarawak Committee presented a Sumazau dance, followed by the entrance procession.

Parish Priest, Fr Louis Loi, in his homily shared that, this year the Parish Theme is ‘Journey Together as A Communion of Prayer’ He then invites all the parishioners to be ‘ A Communion of Prayer’. He shared that more prayers will be answered when more people come together to pray. He then gave a few testimonies, whereby, prayers were answered when there was a call for members to come together to intercede and pray together.

He concluded by saying, we all come from different ethic group but this does not hinders us to come together to pray and worship the Lord as a “Communion, Community & Family” and today’s mass is a good example, as we celebrate the Kaamatan Gawai Mass together.

After mass there was a blowpipe demonstration and all the representative from the various BECs, together with Fr. Louis were invited to test their skills.

It was a happy and festive atmosphere with many activities arranged by the Sabah & Sarawak Committee to celebrate the Harvest Festival, there were photo taking session in their national costume, Sumazau dancing demonstration, lucky draw and the parishioners mingled together sharing their culture and the variety of traditional food ie Jantung Pisang, Rebung, Bubur, Pakasam (wild boar with yam), Sarawak Laksa to our local food ie Nasi Lemak, Fried Noodles, Roti Chanai etc and not forgetting a taste of the Native Rice Wine.

It was truly a joyful and meaningful Harvest Festival for all of us. To all our Brothers and Sisters from Sabah & Sarawak “A Happy Harvest Festival”!
