The Altar Servers of Church of The Holy Name of Mary is a brotherhood composed of Catholic males aged 10 years and above who renders devoted and humble service to God by assisting in the liturgical celebrations and services of the Holy Catholic Church.
The primary role of the Altar Server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass, so that the congregation can be more attentive to the Word of God and making their time of worship more meaningful and deeply felt.
Any young person, above 10 years of age may become a server. Servers should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence. They should have already received their First Holy Communion. Recruitment is open twice a year. Servers must attend training sessions, which offer instruction on the Mass, the various objects used in the liturgy, and the various functions of the server during the Mass and other liturgical celebrations.
Becoming an Altar Server is an important way to participate in parish liturgies, and to find out more about our faith. Serving is an important avenue for our young to become involved in the spiritual life of the Church. Altar Servers add to the solemnity of the Mass and make it an offering that includes all generations. It gives youth an opportunity to understand the reward of service toward others and their community. This ministry provides an opportunity for young parishioners to have a visible role in the parish community.
Apart from assisting at the celebration of the liturgy during mass, the Altar Servers also organise and participate in other activities such as Outreach Programmes, Formation Camps and social events.
